Tuck O’Brien Named President & CEO
Portland, Maine — J. B. Brown & Sons today announced the appointment of Stuart
“Tuck” O’Brien as President and Chief Executive Officer, effective July 1, 2026.
O’Brien succeeds Vin Veroneau, who has served as President and CEO since 2005.
Veroneau will remain an active member of the Company’s Board of Directors.
O’Brien brings more than 20 years of experience in real estate development, public
policy, and complex project execution across Northern New England. Most recently, he
served as Executive Director of the Maine Redevelopment Land Bank Authority, where
he led the organization from concept to a fully operational entity with statewide impact.
During his tenure, Maine Redevelopment launched a first of its kind redevelopment
toolkit for Maine communities, expanded technical assistance and redevelopment support
across the state, and helped advance transformative projects in communities including
East Millinocket and Hartland. Under O’Brien’s leadership, the organization emerged as
a statewide leader in helping communities move difficult redevelopment projects from
stagnation toward productive reuse.
Earlier in his career, O’Brien served as Planning Director for the City of Portland, Maine,
where he oversaw development review, long range planning, and comprehensive zoning
reform during a period of significant growth and investment. He also held senior legal
and leadership roles in both the private and public sectors, including at Tilson
Technology Management and the Maine Public Utilities Commission.
“Tuck brings a rare combination of strategic vision, operational discipline, and
collaborative leadership,” said Tod Dana, Board Chair. “He understands Maine markets,
values long term stewardship, and knows how to align diverse stakeholders to move
complex projects forward. I am confident he is the right leader for J. B. Brown’s next
chapter.”
Veroneau has led J. B. Brown & Sons for more than two decades, overseeing a period of
significant growth, redevelopment, and portfolio expansion for the company. During his
tenure, J. B. Brown successfully repositioned several long held and underutilized assets,
including the development of the VA Medical Center campus and the Courtyard Marriott
on Commercial Street, and the transformation of Free Street in Portland, while continuing
the company’s long tradition of patient, community minded ownership. More recently he
has led the company’s expansion into the Bangor market. Known for his genuine and
understated leadership style, Veroneau helped guide the company through decades of
change while maintaining a disciplined and sustainable approach to investment,
stewardship, and growth. His leadership helped position J. B. Brown as one of the
region’s most respected and enduring real estate organizations.
“It has been a privilege to lead this organization since 2005,” said Veroneau. “J. B.
Brown’s long-term success since the 1800s has always been grounded in strong
relationships, disciplined investment, and a commitment to thinking beyond the
immediate horizon.”
O’Brien said he is honored to join the Company at an important moment for both the
organization and the state. “J. B. Brown has built an extraordinary legacy of thoughtful
ownership, long term investment, and community centered development,” said O’Brien.
“At a time when Maine faces both real challenges and significant opportunity, I believe
organizations like J. B. Brown can play an important role in helping communities grow in
durable and resilient ways. I am excited to work alongside the Company’s strong
leadership team to build on that foundation, strengthen performance across the portfolio
of incredible tenants, and thoughtfully pursue opportunities that create lasting value for
both the organization and the communities we serve.”
J. B. Brown & Sons is a privately held commercial real estate development and
